Using a signage company vs ordering signs online

When it comes to finding a commercial signage company, there are options to suit all types of businesses. But not every signage company is made equal, and even if you have an idea of the signage that might be most effective for your business, working out where to source it is another consideration entirely.

Most signage vendors fall into one of two categories: professional signage companies that look after every aspect of the commercial signage journey, and online retailers, who usually have a lot of variety and low prices. Which one is right for you will depend on your business aspirations, your brand vision and, of course, your budget.

So, what are the pros and cons of each?

Buying commercial signage online

The pros

This is likely to be the cheapest avenue available to you, so if you’re on a very tight budget, it might be worth seeing if you can find what you are looking for online. You’ll usually be able to upload your logo and other artwork, and your sign will be delivered to you.

The cons

While saving money may be a priority, you should be prepared to sacrifice a certain degree of quality.

You’ll also be responsible for choosing and designing your own signage, meaning you’ll need all the necessary artwork ready, and you’ll need to have a very clear idea of what will be most effective for your brand, and how it will last the test of time.

Don’t forget, too, that while your sign might come with fixings, you will be responsible for installation yourself.

Good for: those on a tight budget.

Not for: those who want to invest in their business for the long-term, anyone without a clear idea of what will work best for their brand and those who wish to avoid the hassle of installation.

Investing in professional signage

The pros

The biggest draw of a professional signage company is in the name – you’ll receive a professional service with every aspect taken care of. From design to manufacture and installation, a full signage service leaves you free to focus on actually running your business rather than climbing ladders or stressing about delivery.

You’ll benefit from a full consultation process too, with advice on the best signage strategy to enhance brand awareness and perception, both now and in the future.

By enlisting the experts to help streamline your signage, you can ensure each piece you choose not only compliments the rest of your branding, but plays a key part in the customer journey.

The cons

You’ll find prices tend to be higher than most online signage retailers – because you’ll receive so much more.

Good for: anyone serious about growing a successful business and maximising their visual marketing through high-quality, professionally designed and fully-installed signage.

Not for: those on a very tight budget.
